Our Resort is owned by Rod and Susan Stewart and managed by their daughter Kristin Pitarys.  Kristin joined the family business in August 2012.  She moved from Phoenix home to Platte City with her husband and son.  She wanted to be close to family, raise their son in her hometown, and continue to build on the success her parents have fostered.  Kristin holds a Master�s Degree from Drexel University in Hospitality Management.

Rod & Susan moved from Kansas City to Chicago and then Atlanta where they owned and operated two similar facilities.

 After 22 years of corporate transfers the Stewarts returned to Platte City in June, 2005 to once again be able to enjoy family and old friends.

Our love of animals goes back to childhood. When we were growing up out on HH Hwy, Mom adopted every stray that came to the house. At one time I think the dog count was 25 or 26 and the cats were ... well cats ... there were a lot of them. She taught us to love, respect and care for these furry little gifts from God.

A personal tragedy moved us into the grooming/boarding business in 1992. I took our tiny toy poodle, Beckett, to the groomer. A few hours later they called me to say that "something is wrong with Beckett", and I needed to come up there. The vet told me that Beckett had been poisoned with a too strong application of flea dip and there was nothing he could do to save him. I was devastated. A simple trip to the groomer turned into the loss of my sweet boy. I started doing research and discovered that the pet care industry has no regulations, certifications or professional licenses. Stunning! I also learned that the shop that had poisoned my dog was for sale. Figuring that it was a good idea that the woman not be in the business anymore Rod and I bought it from her.

I started doing research on pet care, holistic medicine, stress and disease control. We bought a second facility a year later. Both were operated without chemicals or toxins and we encouraged our clients to feed holistic food and add supplements to their pet's diet. The grooming shops expanded to daycare facilities and we eventually had to add the boarding since our clients didn't want to leave their pets with anyone else.

Main Street Pet Resort and Day Spa is the product of my experience, research and beliefs about how our precious pets should be treated when we have to be away from them. It has been planned to meet THEIR needs. It will be constantly evolving. It is where I would want to leave my pets if I had to and we hope it is where you will want to leave yours.
